Greetings, I'm trying to find another method of clearing a
169 Ip address from my High speed Cable modem clints hosts.
We use this method and it's not working, do you have
another anwser? -Thank you!
----------------------------------
Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA)

If your local IP address is returned as 169.254.y.z, with
a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0, the IP address was assigned
by the Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) feature of
Windows XP Professional. This means that TCP/IP is
configured for automatic configuration, that no DHCP
server was found, and no alternate configuration is
specified. This configuration has no default gateway for
the interface.
1. Click Start | Control Panel
2. Click Network Connections
3. Right-click Local Area Connection | Properties
4. Uncheck all components
5. Click OK
6. Right-click Local Area Connection | Disable
7. Shut down computer
8. Remove power plug from modem
9. Remove coaxial cable from modem
10. Telnet to modem
11. Clear cable host (optional - if no host, skip this
step)
12. Reconnect coaxial cable to modem
13. Reconnect power plug to modem
14. Turn on computer
15. Click Start | Control Panel
16. Click Network Connections
17. Right-click Local Area Connection | Properties
18. Check all components
19. Click OK
20. Right-click Local Area Connection | Enable
The network card should now have a valid IP address.

You are receiving the 169.x.x.x address because the clients cannot find a
DHCP server. What device is configured to be a DHCP server? Can any client
get a valid IP address? If you statically configure the IP address on a
client can it ping the DHCP server?
