We have just installed XP(SP1)and find that when go to
view the
contents of Recycle Bin prior to emptying it we find
there are no items in there. There should have been, we
had deleted docs from Works. The 'Bypass the Recycle Bin'
option is unchecked in Properties. Anyone know why we
cannot see the docs in the Recycle Bin window as we would
expect to?

The index of the Bin may be corrupt. If you do not longer need the
data here, boot the Recovery Console and use the DEL and RD commands
to delete all the RECYCLED folders on your drives to reset the Bin.

i have seen this happen when the currently logged-on user does not have
permission to write to his/her folder in the "recycler" folder. the root of
each hard drive will have a "recycler" folder, in which each user account
has a folder (may have a recycle bin icon) that corresponds to his/her
account sid. just figure out which sid corresponds to the user account
having the problem (you can use the "getsid" command-line too to determine
an account sid) and make sure the user account has at least 'write'
permission to that folder; though it is probably best to assign modify or
full control. that should resolve the problem.
