I'm sure I am missing something but after loading XP Home
Edition everything on the screen including icons, type,
etc. are HUGE. I have looked everywhere in support and
can't find a way to make this more normal. What can I do
to get a more functional setup?

There are several options that may make your desktop more functional. May I
suggest one of these two:

Right click on an empty space in your desktop and choose settings. There
should be a slider bar to adjust the screen resolution. Slide it to a
higher resolution and click apply.

The other option is under the other tab named Appearance. Under the
Advanced botton you can adjust the font size of your icons, icon spacing,
etc. Make a change, click apply, -- if you like the change keep it. If not
immediately change it back like it was. If you get too deep into changing
stuff and cannot remember how to get it back, you are in trouble. Maybe
write down the changes you make so you can go back. (There is probably an
automated way to go back, but I am new to XP too.)

first response: you should choose properties after you right click on the
empty space.

Linda:
Try this...Right-click desktop, click Properties. In the Display Properties
you should be able to adjust the settings to your liking.
