View Full Version : "Cannot Dial" Connection Problem

Over the weekend, I was trying to help a family member
with his Internet connection problem and I'm stumped. He
had installed NetZero 7.0 from the free CD, and it had
been working fine for months, but just stopped working
last week. When he tries to connect, he gets the
message "Error Message "0" - Cannot Dial." The last part
may not be the exact wording, but close.

The modem is working and checked out okay. We checked
the phone cord and it was working. It seems like his
computer can't even attempt to dial. We called
NetZero "customer" support ($1.95 min!) and the associate
had us uninstall NetZero, restart, disable all firewalls
and virus programs, and reload NetZero. Still didn't
resolve problem.

Also, when we checked his connection settings, it only
shows an LAN set up. I didn't see that a dial-up
connection exists. He has Windows XP. Tried to set up a
new connection for dial-up, but the wizard kept producing
an error message "711", something about no RAS. So this
proved a dead end for us.

They don't have a lot of money and can't afford much in
the way of technical assistance, and I would like to help
him resolve this on his own if possible. He needs
the 'Net for his schoolwork. Please help if you can!

Thanks,

Denise
