When I was using Windows ME and I shut down the computer,
my hard drive automatically turned off. Using XP I go to
the start menu and tell it to turn off the computer but I
still have to manually shut down. Does the computer not
automatically turn off in XP?

Hi,

You likely need to enable APM under Power Management in the Control Panel.
It is not enabled by default during installation.
