This will get a alot of laughs,I know but...
I was working on my computer last night for a few hrs.
and when I went to shut-down I couldn't. Kept telling me
I had a window still not closed. Things just weren't
working right so I decided to run a virus scan. Actually,
I think it might of went there on it's own after trying
to shut-down. (What can I say I was tired.) To the
point...my Norton anti-virus was disabled, I tried to
enable it but it wouldn't let me. Also when I checked my
pop-up blocker it too was disabled!!!
I know your going to say this is a problem for Norton
but I would like to ask your (any MVP) out there, could
someone be trying to ( well actually succeding) in
disable my defences? It was weird becuase the pop-up was
also gone.
Even when I checked after knowing they were diabled, on
the screen they looked O.K. like everything was working
O.K. Should I be always checking these things. What?
every-hr.?
And yes I contacted Norton, but if their product wasn't
working their not going to tell the truth.
Can someome disable me like that without me knowing?
Scary!

Only the NSA, the CIA or the FBI have that capability. That however, is top
secret.

I don't think there is anyone in here who can answer that. There are
university professors world-wide whose class projects are to try to find
back doors into Windows systems. Every time one is found, it is usually
published in some journal somewhere. Microsoft, in an effort to protect its
good name -- which, BTW, has become synonomous with security -- issues a
critical update.
There are the obvious back doors, sharing a drive to the network for
example.

>O.K. Two answers from the same person? I'll take it as,
anything is possible. I will investgate hopefully with
my "Anti-Virus" provider. Well O.K, at least look into it
further since it (might be poosible??) Thank-You for your
response and for help service.

Don't know if this will renable your disabled enable but did you download
the NAV or NIS updates in the last two weeks? There is a bad bug that
affects some XP machines and not others. Norton hadn't done anything about
it by last weekend except to publish a difficult to find solution at
http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/nis/nis_2003_info_contact.html. I spent
several hours uninstalling and reinstalling NIS last Friday.
