View Full Version : Password Prompt
Larry

Hello,
I have 4 xp pro machines in a workgroup... 3 of them can
see shares with NO problem at all...The 4th machine
requires any network access to give a username and
password...
ex:
\\Machine_Name
I then get a prompt for username and password.
I have checked the local security policy and Guest access
is allowed for Access this computer from a network.
What other policies are restricting this machine from
being accessed from a network?
Thanks
Rino

Hi Larry,
If you still have your Network Setup Disk (floppy), insert it
in 4th machine. Now, delete the old share Folder of 4th machine.
Then proceed to make another new share Folder for 4th machine.
Pay attention to name a unique (different name) for each machine,
and remember your Workgroup Name.
Hope this helps,
Rino

That happens under several conditions.
On the fourth machine, has simple file sharing been disabled?
Are you using blank passwords?
