The Winzip trial that came bundled with my dell 4500 has
expired. Doe's XP home have built in zip support?
"Help",says that the 64 bit version does not. How do I know
if I have the 64 bit version? The only info I found says I
have OS version 5.1.2600. Do I have any options or do I
just buy Winzip?
Thanks in advance for your help. Rich

i don't think there is a trial version of xp. more likely, you just need to
activate windows xp. and since you may have lapsed the 30-day grace period,
you may need to login in safe mode (by pressiong F8 during bootup and
choosing safe mode).

try to look for the key icon in your taskbar in order to go through the
activation process.

the 64-bit version of xp is only available with the more expensive hardware
and uses the intel itanium processor
(http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/64bit/evaluation/overview.asp). this in
fact is a more expensive software as well.

the rest of us, using intel pentium (and its derivatives) and amd processors
use the 32 bit version.

i hope this helps even a bit.

richie,

You can download Winzip from;

www.winzip.com

It is very inexpensive and well worth purchasing. However, it you prefer,
you can use the built-in zip program provided with Windows XP.

To associate zip files with the default program, perform the following;

Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 zipfldr.dll

Afterwards when right clicking on a file you will be provided with the
option to use "Compressed (zipped) Folder" which is the zip program.

For more information visit the following sites;

Try Enzip (freeware). I've been using it for years.
