View Full Version : Network Slow:

I have 7 systems on a home network. All the computers are
the exact same internal components and all connected to
the same hub. But one of the systems only seemed to get
an internet connection of 10mbps while the other 6 are at
100mbps and I can't figure out why. All driver settings
are the same for the network card as well. The IP and
Subnet mask are all auto assigned.

Does any one know how to get the connection to 100mbps?

Thank you,

Danielle

I assume that your 7 PCs all get to the 'net via the "hub" and
that the "hub" is connected to the 'net via a cable or DSL modem.
If that's correct, then the connection speed reported by the PCs
is unimportant, since the cable/DSL modem can only deliver 3 Mb/s
or less, so that 10 Mb/s or 100 Mb/s on the downstream side of
the "hub" will make no difference.

FWIW, your "hub" is probably a router, or at least a switch. Not
that it matters for your question, but for other questions you might
ask in this NG, the difference can be important.

Depends on the NIC but often there is a setting under Advanced properties
that involves the Link speed and Duplex. Make sure it is at Auto.

A poor cable installation can do the same thing. If the above does not
work, try moving computers, that is, move one that does get the 100 mbps
speed into where the 10 mbps problem is. What happens?
