I would like to understand why when I try to use the ctrl key to purge or to
move many items, it creates copies of those items?
Best Regards.

The default behaviour is to copy the file(s). Since CTRL does not have
any effect here the files will be copied if you press CTRL or not.
Press SHIFT to move a file. Press SHIFT and CTRL to create a shortcut.

You are moving your mouse just enough while the mouse button is down
to make XP think that you have elected to move the set of files
chosen. Since you are moving them to the same folder, it makes copies
of them.

That seems strange. I never had any problem like this with Windows 98. What
has changed. So you are saying that when I am holding the cntrl key and
selecting a file or folder that if I accidentally move off of that target
while doing so it will copy no matter what I tell it to do.
