I formated and partitioned the hard drive with the hard
drive software and it said you can now install your
operating system but to use the CD Rom drive I had to
boot from a startup disk with CD Rom support and when I
put the XP Home CD in to install it came up and said it
can`t be installed in DOS mode and the only way I could
install it was to put Win 98 back on and then install Win
XP over it. When it rebooted I had a blank screen and had
to come up in safe mode and boot in VGA mode .It also
gave me a choice of booting in to XP HOME or WIN 98.Why
did it not pick up my moniter and why do I have both
systems on my computer . It also did`t ask me to log in
when it came up but went right into the program.
Can any one help me get a clean install Please. Thank You.

Check your BIOS settings to see if it has the option to boot from the CD
drive by setting the CD drive as the first boot option. If so, set it to
this option, place the XP installation disk in the drive and reboot. This
will start the setup.

If you do not have this option, get the XP Boot Disks from the following
website:

I did as you said and made my CD Rom as first boot and it
worked great. I also downloaded the program to the
Floopies just in case but all is now fine. THANK YOU SO
MUCH.
