Just a quick question, what file system are you running on
XP??

If you are running NTFS, the reason why u came across this
problem is because you are trying to access a NTFS
partition using a FAT32 platform.

The easiest solution is to format Win XP and reinstall it
under FAT32.

Ahh, good point, but thank heavens, the laptop was FAT32 and we
retained that.
I suppose I could always get another hard drive, and install W98SE on
it and use it as a last-resort if all else fails, but really, XP has
some good features, as does its 2000 kernal, and it would be a shame
to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
