Can anybody help me on this one, I have a Internal V92 modem on my pc, every
time I turn it on, I assigns a comm port to either 5 or 3, and when I try to
run AOL if I have just turned my pc on, it will lock up, but if before
loading up AOL, I change the comm port to the other number, i.e. if it is on
5 I change it 3, it will work......
I have tried to call AOL, and as usual they blame the pc or modem (or
driver) , if I speak to someone who knows a bit about pc's he says it is
AOL.....
Anybody out there who can help me, I have hardly any hair left...
Regards.

Dump AOL and get a decent ISP which is just about anyone compared to AOL
hell. Earthlink is a good alternative.

It's also my understanding that AOL is quite expensive now for a dialup.
Perhaps twice the price of standard dialups that even come with USEnet
access.

Like others have suggested, dump AOL and get another ISP such as Bellsouth,
AT&T, or Earthlink. I have seen AOL's software mess up computers over and
over. Once you cancel AOL, uninstall the software to make sure that your PC
is cleaned up. Also, check your Credit Card bill or phone bill for the next
6 months as I have had several colleagues say that AOL continued to bill
them for months after cancellation. Hope the info is helpful - I know that
you may not want to hear this suggestion, but as a network admin and
consultant, I see many problems with AOL.
