View Full Version : Dialer not coordinated among launched applications

This is a new machine that came with XP, my first experience with the
operating system (Win98 on other PC). Typically when I go on line I'll
launch several programs at once in rapid succession - Agent to get
newsgroups, one or two instances of IE, Pegasus for mail.

With my older computer, dialing proceeded courtesy of the first app
that called for it, say "get new message headers" in Agent or a
website plus enter with IE. The dialling box would take the forefront
and disappear when the connection was made, and all of the apps would
be connected at once.

With the XP machine, if I poll for new messages with Agent and
immediately go for an IE website, the dial-out is either terminated or
unrecognized by IE. Even after the connection has gone through, I
might get a message from IE asking permisison to go on line to reach
the website. Once I say that I'll go online, everything proceeds as
usual. Another thing is that the dialing box does not always appear.

FWIW, while looking for a solution today I noticed that the flow
control for my com port (set as COM1) is set at Xon XOff, and the
modem (on COM3) is set for Hardware. I left them as they were.

Thanks, in advance.

The dial-up box is probably buried beneath all of the programs when you use
the "shotgun" approach you are accustomed to using. Change your style!

My typical morning startup consists of two IE windows, Agent, and
Pegasus. Besides, the dial-up box has never been shy about putting
itself directly in front of everything else.

Activating two programs shouldn't cause the dialer to stop working.
