After i capture this big old file from tape, MM wants to import it into MM.
I see that the file already exists as a DVI on disk. So what is it
importing?
WIll I have 2 big old files on disk ?

No, you won't have 2 files. Think of 'importing' as 'linking'. MM just
takes enough info to make a thumbnail icon and info to show you about the
file. The info is put into your collection database file.
My database file is about 25 MB now, but it has over 11,000 imported clips.
