I have become absolutely furious with the non-help I have
received from microsoft & dell. I inherited a dell
computer which has windows xp system. After two hours
with dell who tell me they cannot give me any information
because I am not the authorized person, and it does not
matter that the previous owner is dead and cannot
provide any information, I am told to call Microsoft.
Three numbers and over an hour of waiting, I am told by
Microsoft that they cannot help me with the XP system,
since after the sell it to dell they no longer have any
control - but they "Maybe" she will be able to help for
$35.00 per hour, but she will not guarantee that she can
tell my how to change the authorized person's info to my
own.
Does any know how to deactivate the old authorization on
the XP system, because at this time I cannot download,
add or replace programs or even go on line. This program
and computer are now totally useless - I guess just the
help I'm getting from dell and microsoft.

Not sure what your mean by: "deactivate the old authorization ".
One drastic action you could take is to restore the computer to the "as
delivered by Dell" configuration. You should have CDs with the computer to
restore the operating system and the pre-installed applications.
Restoring will not help you with getting support from Dell. I have a old
Dell that included a U. S. Ownership/Service & Support Transfer Card. The
phone number for Service Transfer Department was 800-289-3355 ext 65353. If
your computer is still under warranty or extended service agreement, I would
check into transfer of ownership. If not, I would not expect much from Dell
{IMO} and would seek help for specific problems at newsgroups such as this
one.

Microsoft can not support it because it is OEM.
Dell can not support you because you are not the owner according to
Dell records.
Customer Service and Ownership options on this page may help:

Your actual problem is unclear.
What are you trying to do?
What is the EXACT message on the computer?

Why are you unable to download or even go on line?

Well. You rissue is with Dell. Not MS. Can either keep calling Dell to
try to get them to change ownership( Good Luck), or Format your hard
drive and buy XP retail and install that. This would make you eligible
for software hepl from MS. For hardware, yo're pretty much out of
luck.
