My old machine has had it and am about
to build another. My current machine is running
Win98se which has been constantly upgraded since
Win 3.
In the past when I upgraded my machines with "new" hard drives
and Win at the same time I was able to install the "upgrade"
on the new machine by using the start-up disk from the previous
version without having to install all of the previous version on the new
hard drive then "up-grading that.
Is this still the case?
Or, can someone point me to some info how to "up-grade"
a new hard drive?
Thanks
Xeno

You can do a clean (fresh) install of XP using an XP Upgrade version
providing you have a copy of Windows 98/Me/NT or 2000 to satisfy the request
when prompted for a qualifying product during the initial stages of the XP
installation. XP Upgrade CDs are bootable. So boot with the XP CD and it
will check your system, install a few files need to begin setup and will
then prompt you for the qualifying product. Pop your Windows 98 SE (even if
it is only an Upgrade version) into eh drive and in a few seconds you will
be asked for the XP CD again and installation will continue.

If you need info on installing XP check this link

O.K. then it's still the same as in the past.
Thanks for the help.
Fortunately I have my "se" upgrade CD.
Come to think of it I think I still have some DOS
disk sets. Guess it's time for me to clean out the junk!
Thanks again
Xeno
