My computer doesn't seem to do that so I can only suggest
ways that might be able to turn it off.
Firstly, go to Start>All Programs>Startup. If
the 'system32' folder shortcut is in there, drag it out
onto the desktop and delete it.
If there is no folder shortvut in there, then go to
Start>Run and type 'msconfig' (without the quotes). A new
windows opens up. Click the 'Startup' tab. Look for the
word 'system32' (or similar) which has a check in the box
to it's left. Uncheck this box. Click 'Apply' and
then 'OK'. A message will appear asking you if you want
to reboot. This is not necessary. Next time you boot up,
a message will appear. To avoid receiving this message,
simply check the checkbox and click 'OK'.

Good Luck,
Ben.

Hello Ben,

Thanks for the reply.

I've already had a look in startup with msconfig and can't see anything
obvious that might cause the window to open up like that. What is does load
is something called ctfmon which on investigation is a microsoft doo-dad
which is in sys32. Any clues from that?

Thanks again,

Martin

Greetings --

This can be caused by a blank entry, such as can be left behind by
an incomplete program removal, in the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and/or
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.

Hello Bruce,

It worked wonders! All clear now and no more stray windows - many thanks.
The actual keys they mentioned seemed OK but I found other ones that were
obviously wrong, I took them out and bingo!

Thanks for the tip and for bothering to reply...I'm much obliged,

Martin
