View Full Version : xp pro sp1 and USB

I recently bought a Dell PC with XP Home pre-installed.
It was working ok, although I had a few spasmodic problems with some USB
devices.
I then upgraded to XP Pro using a disk from my Uni (Campus Licence, etc).
The install went ok until I downloaded and installed Service Pack 1.
When I re-booted, none of my USB devices were recognised.
Has anyone come across this before?
And more importantly has anyone seen any reason for/solution to this?
I've tried Microsoft support site but with no success.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Thanks
Mark

Hi,
Sounds like the system does not like the updated USB drivers in SP1. Try a
driver rollback in Device Manager, see if the older ones are still
available. Otherwise, I'd see if the ones from Dell are either on any disks
you received with the PC, or if they are available as a download.

How do I rollback (I've made a backup into a folder on my HD)?
Where do I put the old files?
I'm going to re-install SP1 so will lose my internet connection soon!

Hi,
Open the System applet in the Control Panel, on the hardware tab click on
the Device Manager. Expand the device group, then double-click the device in
question. Go to the Driver tab, there should be an option to "rollback
driver".
