I'm running XP Home Edition and have had three entire
programs disappear off my drive along with their containing
folders. It happened not all at once, but three separate
times. I had used these programs frequently and when
clicking on the icon for the program in the start menu,
Windows could not find it. I did thorough searches and
found that they vanished. I should mention that I am the
only user of the computer and I'm not on a Network.
Is this problem an issue with Windows XP, or does anyone
know why this happened?
Thanks.

If Windows can't find it, then that's really bizarre. Out of
curiosity, do you have the option to see hidden files enabled? I have
to wonder if they're still there, but hidden. (Control Panel \ File
Options \ View.) You did use Find, yes?

And... Mother of Four, here. is there anyone else in the household who
might use the computer despite being told not to? I can envision a kid
trying to cover his\her tracks and accidentally covering yours as
well.

I do have it set to show hidden files and did several
searches.
