I have a Sony DVD 100 camcorder with the 8cm mini disc. When I try to use the capture video from Moviemaker2 I get an error message "No device recognised" I think this is because Sony uses Mpeg2 for the mini disc and Movie maker does not have this is a fil
e extension. Is there a fix for this? The photos download fine because they are Jpeg.

The format that you use to save your captured video is not related to your
problem of xp detecting you camera. Does your camera use firewire to
connect...?

If I use the software that comes with the camara called
Image mixer by Pixela it works fine because it recognises
Mpeg2. The problem is the software is to cumbersome I
like Movie Maker better. MM2 works OK capturing from the
camcorder connected to the computer to capture photos
(jpeg) which Movie Maker recognises.
