View Full Version : Warning ******** Don't Download any Patch from Microsoft Sent Via E-Mail********

Mark Ronning
December 6th 03, 11:59 AM
I just received this e-mail that was stopped by my firewall.

Never ever install an update from Microsoft sent via e-mail.

All Microsoft updates for Windows XP are done through the Windows Update
site.

Just don't want to see new users getting their system smashed.

Greetings --

You do realize, don't you, that you've just given an unknown
number of unscrupulous spammers a whole bunch of fresh email
addresses? I'm sure the spammers will be just as grateful as the
owners of the email addresses will be justifiably angry.

be aware of such a thing. Also, you have to know that
spammers are already scanning boards like this looking for
fresh email addresses on their own. I say better to know
and be able to protect oneself than to be "blind."

Thanx, and hope I haven't offended anyone. : )

Greetings --

He could have posted the warning, old news though it was, without
re-publicizing a group of email addresses belonging to other people.

There is nothing wrong with a warning.
However there are also about 50 Email addresses of people that have no
idea what was done.
They all may very well get many Email each all because of this one
posting.
Yours will certainly be harvested with the multiple times it has been
posted.

A very conservative estimate has 200 spam Email just from the one
posting.(4 spam per address)
