We have several PCs that when trying to set the resolution
down to 1024 x768 or 800 x 600, after rebooting it will go
back to the default for that particular monitor. The only
way I've found to stop this from happening is to give the
user administrative rights...not a good answer. This
happens on various monitors CRT and flat panel.

I don't know for sure if it is an XP problem, or a problem
with our new HP PCs' video card.

I just got an HP dc7600 w/ XP Pro and had the same exact problem. I
found a "fix" hidden at the HP support site at
"http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqdt/us/download/20138.html".

I installed the program and ran it and my screen flashed, then my
resolution was set to 1600x1200@85Hz. I change it back to 1280x1024 and
rebooted and it worked. Problem solved. Good luck.
