I am thinking of buying a new Sony VAIO and they offer both versions of XP.
The difference in price is $100. What will I be getting for that $100? if
it is just networking applications, then I don't think I will buy "Pro", but
I want to be sure before making the decision.

Thanks

Greetings --

The two versions are identical, when it comes to stability,
functionality, and device driver and software application
compatibility, but are intended to meet different needs, in different
environments. One difference not usually mentioned is that WinXP Pro
allows up to 10 simultaneous inbound network connections, while WinXP
Home only allows a maximum of 5.

Best account :

Add that Home only supports five simultaneous network connections - Pro
allows ten

Pro has a superset of functionality over XP Home:

1. Allows connections to Domains and corporate networks
2. Has IIS Web Server facilities
3. Has advanced user account control
4. Has advanced NTFS security functionality
5. Can used EFS (Encrypted File System)
