View Full Version : Windows XP Firewall

When trying to activate the Windows XP Firewall, I
consistently get either an Error 1061 "Cannot enable
Shared Access" or Error 1003 "Cannot Enable Shared
Access". This is a standalone computer using dial-up to
access the Internet. I am the only user on the system
with the exception of guest. My wife does have an ISP
Account so she uses it for the Internet and Email. I
thought there might be a conflict between McAfee Firewall
and Windows so I have tried to set it with Mcafee running
and with Mcafee closed with the same results. All the
latest Windows XP updates are installed. It is getting a
little frustrating because Dell does not seem to know
what the problem is (I've had the machine for a month
now) and Microsoft keeps refering me to Dell because
Windows XP came installed in my machine. Any ideas?

If you have McAfee firewall why do you wnat to use the ICF of Windows? McAfee is a much better option. Even though you turn McAfee off it is still there and may be causing the problems. Totally unistall McAfee and run a registry cleaner to get rid of all t
he references to McAfee. Then try the ICF if you must.

I agree, if you want to use ICF instead of the McAfee firewall, remove the
McAfee firewall then try to enable ICF.
Concerning support, what the Microsoft reps told you is correct. Since your
PC can with XP installed from Dell you are using an OEM version and you need
to contact Dell for support.
