I have tried to install two updates and they have failed
several times. Q811493 and Q817287. They both fail and
ask for Cryptographic service to be running. This service
is running. I have stoped it and started it and still
they fail. How do install them or get them to go away. I
have auto update enabled and everyday I am notified that
there is an update. Every day I check the details and it
is Q817287. If I run it from the auto update dialog I
get no error but it does not install. I only get an
error if I run it directly from the download file not the
auto update dialog.

Ronald,

Close any open IE windows. Click Start, Run and enter %WINDIR%\System32
Locate the Catroot2 folder and rename it. Go back to Windows Update and
try again. Also, the Q811493 patch has been known to cause issues for a
number of users. The problem arises with the use of various anti-virus
software packages, resulting in a significant slowdown of the computer.
Unless you really need this patch, you should probably skip it.
