View Full Version : Startup - how do I change something?

Hi,
I have a strange thing happening. Every time I start the
PC and get into Windows, a File Explorer shows a
directory from my ATI card that has a bunch of files to
run my video card. In any case, it shows every time at
startup and yet when I looked into the "Startup" folder,
I do not see any calling to open this folder. Is there
some secret hiding place for another "Startup" place,
perhaps in Registry or something???

Thanks!

It might be in the MSConfig startup list.

Click Start | Run | MSConfig | Startup
Look for any orphaned entry and disable it. XP does not require any startup
application. So, uncheck all except the most required ones, (antivirus,
firewall) etc

Right on the window that pops up is a box to check or uncheck that says:
"Show this menu at every Startup" or something like that. ? ? check or
uncheck as needed.

Thank you all - http://aumha.org/win4/a/loads.php site was very
helpful and MSConfig is a great utility that I never knew about. May
I ask if any of you like specific Startup utilities that are available
at CNET or TuCows? I looked at some like Advanced Startup Manager,
AShampoo and RegRun - any thoughts?

Also, what is the best WinXP Pro book to learn the tricks and
administrative stuff?

Many thanks,
Zorian
