Did you ensure the LPT port was set to EPP in the BIOS configuration?

Thanks for your advice, I have changed the LPT port from ECP to EPP mode in the Bios and it works OK now.
Why is it like this, earlier I was running Win Me with the ECP configuration and it work fine? Nevertheless I am very pleased with the solution.

it works without getting into how the data flows through it!
