I have a home network with a HP Printer direct connect to
my router via a jet direct card. My question is: how do I
assign a static IP on the printer so that I don't need to
reconfigure the port everytime I turn off the printer.
Please Help.

I have found the easiest way to configure these printers is to use the
CD software to access the printer using some HP Ethernet protocol. Then
you can assign the IP address. Once an IP address is assigned, you can
access the printer via http://x.x.x.x and finish the configuration and
assign passwords. I have seen HP printers with default IP addresses of
0.0.0.0 and also some other strange IP address that is difficult to use,
so I prefer to assign the IP address via the software.
However, if you have it setup via DHCP, you should be able to access the
web interface and then configure a static IP address and other
parameters.
