I upgraded from Me to XP. The XP-Home edition that I have, is OEM. Installed
XP without a hitch. Registered (Full registration, on-line, no problems).
This was all done to a 10 gig hd. Thinking on the matter some; decided to
transfer XP to larger hd (20 gig). Installation went without a hitch. Used
the import files and settings wizard to import via (ide) my files and
settings. Although everything went well, my registraion info did not seem to
be tranferred. So, I just activated XP on-line. Can this be resolved?
Thanks in advance Wayne,

Hi,
No, it can't be resolved that way, as it needs to be activated anytime it is
freshly installed, even on a repair install - you can't transfer this using
the FASTWIZ.

Registration and Activation are two diffrent things. Registration is
merely letting MS know you bought one of thier products so you can
recieve Customer Support and they can send you things like Update
notices and specials on products. Registration also is not required.
You don't need to re-register XP anymore then you need to re-register
your car if you get the upholstery changed. It still the same
computer( car). :)
Activation on the other hand is required to keep your machine
operating. But no personal informationis involved. It merely ties the
Os to that particular machine. If you change more then X number of
components within 120 days, you will need to re-activate.

Well, Thank you David, that sounds logical. Other than a possible
re-activation, I need not worry. Heard some wierd stories about XP. And
some from so-called experts; who are in the business.
Anyhow, Logical is usually good.
Been messing with these things since before windows. Before Deskmate even.
Dskmate, Gates first. Have been building my own . Never had a "Main Line"
machine.
"Thanks again." Wayne, "Friendship through radio."
