XP wont recognize USB port

I go to My Computer, right click, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager and the USB port is not on the list, I tried plug and Play - nothing there either - the ports are in the computer and my other computer has USB on its device Manager list -???????- than

Did you download and install your motherboard drivers from the
manufacturer's website?
