HELP with fix for BSOD

[Fran]

Using WinXP home. What is the fix for the Blue Screen of Death that I
usually, but not always get at shutdown?

The error msg at the top is always the same DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
At the bottom STOP: 0X000000D1. Below that it "postcly.sys etc."...no clue
what that is!
or infrequently "videopost.sys etc").

I assume it is some kind of driver error. I have tried the MS help and all
troubleshooting pages,
but nothing there has worked for me. Thanks in advance for all help on this

Fran

It's a driver causing this error. To troubleshoot this and pin point which
driver is causing the error, perform a search for the videopost.sys and
postcly.sys files on the computer. Once found, right click the file in the
search results and select Properties/Version tab. This will give you
information on which hardware device the driver file is associated with.

Make sure you have the "Search system folders" and "Search hidden folders
and files" options selected in the Advanced search options.

Ronnie, I tried performing a search for the videopost.sys and postcly.sys
files and no files could be found (including hidden files) on my computer!
What do I do now? Still getting BSOD at shutdown.

Strange that those files referenced in the error message would not show up
in the search? Open Windows Explorer and select Tools/Folder Options/View
tab. Select the "Show hidden files and folders" option. Remove the check
mark from the "Hide extensions for known file types" and "Hide protected
operating system files (recommended)" options. Apply/OK.

Try the search again.

If no joy, Open Control Panel/System/Hardware tab/Device Manager button. Are
there any yellow "?" or "!" signs showing beside any of the installed
devices there?

If not, give me a description of what peripheral devices are attached to the
system, especially any USB devices like web cams or ?

Ronnie,

I followed your instructions in Folder Options...to no avail. A search
turned up nothing...again! Strange that it doesn't show up somewhere!

I am traveling on biz no so I have no peripheral devices attached to my
notebook. At home I have an HP printer (usb). I have removed this printer
driver from my system and still I get the BSOD at shutdown every time!

Your help and advice is appreciated.
