View Full Version : My computer is forever seeking the floppy drive

I'm sitting here wondering when my computer is going to stop looking at my
floppy drive. I rebooted, and it still does the same thing. When I put a
floppy in it and several others as well, it stops, but keeps reading and
reading and reading the floppy disk. It never stops reading the damn thing.
I tried 5 or floppies already. Should I just go get another floppy? What can
it be. How can I stop this crap......Peter

Just a few things to check out, not sure it will do anything but its
something to try.

1. You may want to open up the PC and check and see if the floppy cable is
connected all they way.

2. Scan for virus. Do you have Norton AntiVirus? I know that program scans
floppy disks, maybe a reinstall of that program.

I hope this helps some.

Does the floppy drive start doing this once its booted up?

I stopped it by simply disabling the floppy in the BIOS. I have been using
XP since the second beta, and have yet to have to use the damn thing. Since
even before XP, a floppy is not necessary if you have an up-to-date
motherboard. If I need to back anything up, I back it up on my secondary HD
or on a CD.

Sounds like your floppy cable is connected wrong.
