View Full Version : pop up mesages selling how to eliminate them selves

I keep geting messages in pop-up windows in all of my
programes is their a way to eliminate these windows with
out having to paythem to stop bombarding me with their own
pop-ups

These are spam using the Messenger service. You can disable this service by
opening the services applet in the control panel -> administrative tools as
you don't need it unless you are part of a domain network (which I doubt).
Disabling it doesn't cure the main issue though, which is that you have
ports (and therefore your computer) which are wide open to the internet.
Install a decent firewall program like Zone Alarm and that problem will go
away too... Windows DOES come with a built-in firewall (lookup Internet
Connection Firewall in the Help & Support centre), but Zone Alarm is MUCH
better.. :)

Note that this is NOT connected to Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger which
is an entirely different animal.

I use Kerio - it seems its the only freeware Firewall that will cope
properly with ICS.....
