When I try to start WinXP, I get a message, which says Windows cannot
start because cp_437.nls is missing or corrupt.
When I looked at the WinXP Pro disc, I could find c_437.nl_ and when I
looked at another WinXP Pro computer, I found c_437.nls in the system32
subfolder.
I presume these are both names of codepages. Are they the same
codepage? Could I just copy and rename c_437 to also be cp_437 to
satisfy the bugger?

Bruce;
cp_437.nls seems to be from Windows 95/98.
c_437.nl_ is commpressed (Zipped).
c_437.nls can be extracted from c_437.nl_
=====================
Open a command prompt window.
Start | Run | Type: cmd | OK
Insert your XP CD into the drive and enter the following (Copy and Paste)
command:
EXPAND -R X:\I386\c_437.nl_ C:\WINDOWS\system32\c_437.nls
NOTE :
Change X to = your CD drive letter
