Closing or shutting down.

I have upgraded to XP Home, Previously i had ME
edition, When I shut down with M E, it shut down
on my computer, to start up all I did was to
click to start button on the computer,
With XP to close it stays on with the words
Shutting down, so therefore I have to switch off at
the main switch and on again the same,
98 one could stop and start useing the on
switch.
Please help
