Go to a firewall testing site that you find doing an internet search. Have your firewall on and then test it. Make sure that this is an independent site and not a supplier of firewalls as part of some advertising techniques is to blatantly lie to you. I ha
ve tested it on my HE OS and have found it up to the standards of some of the best firewalls made. Good luck.

Good idea! I went to Audit My PC, did a scan and it found one open port. Disabled FTP Servers and Telnet. Rescanned and no problems were found. Thanks!

Internet Connection Firewall will protect your computer as well
as any firewall out there. When you buy a 3rd party firewall you are paying
for more functionality and configuration options. Many people want more
functionality than what ICF provides. However, many people also just want to
be able to turn on a firewall and know that there computer is reasonably
protected. For these people ICF is the best option.

It only added 2 KB to the message and nothing in the MS rules prohibits
HTML.

I was using ZoneAlarm but my comp kept crashing so I had to uninstall it.
Turns out there's a known problem
with the True Vector engine on XP that causes it to crash. Been that way
since the first version of 4.5. I've just switched over from 98 and thought
I'd ask. Passed the online test, so that's good enough for me.

I just went to the Audit My PC site. When I begin the scan, the IP that the
site is showing for me is not the IP I see when I do an Ipconfig/all at the
command prompt.

I am running XP Home with ICF turned on and am using a wireless connection
from broadband.

Is there some reason that what the site shows for my IP is _not_ the IP I am
getting when I do an Ipconfig?

How does the router gets its IP assigned? By Comcast, which is my broadband
service?

When I do an Arin /whois on the IP that shows by doing Ipconfig/all, I get
the following from Arin:

NameServer: BLACKHOLE-1.IANA.ORG
Comment: This block is reserved for special purposes.
Comment: Please see RFC 1918 for additional information.

Hi Alan,

Actually I mis-stated that.
The IP you see is the WAN (wide area network) IP address assigned to your
router by Comcast. Your router should have a 192.168.x.x LAN (local are
network) IP address for your internal network.
Ipconfig /all will show your internal addresses. To see the external address
assigned by Comcast you would need to open the router's configuration page.

to shut it down (also newsgroups) and at other times there are NO
problems at all! Are others experiencing similar problems?

I know it doesn't but posting in HTML generally buggers up the formatting of
most good newsreaders when you hit reply to group.

Pro because of problems.
