Graphics Card Install Help

I have just purchased an Excaliber Radeon 9200 card. I
uninstalled the existing card rebooted turned off the
machine. Pushed in the new card and rebooted. The PC got
the windows logo bit then just froze. I tried restarting
windows in safe mode which worked. I then installed the
new graphics card drivers and tried to reboot again but
the same thing happened. My AGP slot is 4X and the
graphics card is 8X could that be the problem.

Any ideas please help.

Yes, that's your problem. Unless the new card has software or jumpers
that enable it to work at 4X, you're not going to be able to use it.
Check the manual that came with the card to see if it can be lowered
to work at 4X. Otherwise, take the card back or save it for when you
upgrade your motherboard.

I agree with the response, Your limited to the mb hardware
although I would think the 8x card should work in the
slower slot. try this.
boot in safe mode, remove your custom video adapter, and
go back to default VGA, then boot in normal mode, if your
able to do this, then try to install the new card, you may
not get the full ability of the card. if your not able to
boot in vga mode, then I would take the card back and get
one that is the same speed as the AGP slot.

I have a feeling that you are right that it is not the hardware.

According to the ATI website, the 9200 should work in an AGP 2X
(3.3V), 4X (1.5V), 8X (0.8V) Or a system with the Universal AGP 3.0
bus configuration. It will just run at the max that the slot is rated
for.

So that would cover most motherboards. So doubt it is the mobo
causing the problem.
