I want to switch to classic view on the start menu in
windows XP. I keep coming up with an error telling me
that it had a problem downloading the file and could not
continue. It does not say what file it had problems
downloading so I don't know what file it is. I though
windows XP already came with all of the files needed to
switch to classic view without having to download any
files. I have switched it on other computers without
having to download any files. Thanks to anybody who
replies.

[Classic Start Menu - Force Use

Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\ Policies\Explorer.
Value Name: NoSimpleStartMenu, Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value), Value Data:
(1 = force classic menu, 0 = default). Create a new DWORD value, or modify the
existing value, called 'NoSimpleStartMenu' and edit the value according to the
settings below. Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of
Windows for the change to take effect.

Both edits can be downloaded from here:

167. Force Classic Start Menu
214.Windows XP Style Changes to Windows Classic]

[To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and
answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by right
clicking on the file and selecting Edit.]
