View Full Version : Logon Errors

Hi,
Ive recently purchased a new pc which came bundled with Xp.
On switching the system on i found that as soon as windows
hit the welcome screen my system rebooted, and would then
reload, reach the welcome screen, reboot ad infinitum.
Ive managed to disable this rebooting by going into the
system in safe mode and disabling the automatic restart
option in control panel.
Now however i find that on reaching the welcome screen,
instead of being presented with a list of users to log in
as, i instead get an error box stating something
like "there was not enough memory/resources/space to
perform the requested function you will be logged in using
the default profile.

Whilst im getting more errors with the system beyond this,
id obviously like to fix this first issue before i go into
any in depth fixes on anything else.

System info for those who need it:

2400+ AMD K7
256Mb DDR Ram
40Gb hdd, with nothing but XP Pro on it
8Mb AGP Intel 810 graphics card.
onboard C-Media c9738 sound, SIS-onboard lan.

any ideas much appreciated :)

Contact the OEM or place of purchase for support on the system.
If has never operated correctly out of the box from day 1 then I would take
the matter up with them and get them to supply you with a working system to
begin with.

Got it at a PC fair, and i will be chasing this up with
the retailer next month when its back on, if i havent
fixed it myself before then.
Im not frightened of playing with the system if its just a
configuration issue tho, im MCP nt4 and 2k, i just have
almost zero knowledge of xp what so ever and ive never
seen this error ever pop up before, so as you can imagine,
if theres a fix out there for it, i'd like to know simply
for future reference.

If you were that 'knowledgeable' about things, then you'd know that a
computer fair isn't the most sensible of places to be purchasing computer
hardware, never mind a complete system!

Edward - in that case just boot from the Windows XP CD ROM and reinstall the
OS.
If your PC came with a properly transferred license for Windows you WILL
have received either a Retail Windows XP CD ROM or an OEM CD ROM, or if the
PC is a resale of an OEM machine like a Dell/Gateway/HP/Compaq etc, you may
have received a System Restore CD.
Use which ever one of these you have.

If non were supplied then you bought a PC (hardware) only and you do not
have a valid license to use Windows XP. In which case just go and purchase
your own copy and boot from it and reinstall.

i had asked for constructive help, not criticism, besides
ive not had problems with company in question in the past.
FYI i've worked in network administration and security for
the past 8 years, and know a fair bit.
However im all too willing to accept that i dont know
everything, and will ask for advice and support when
needed. I dont recall asking for flames, however, so
kindly keep those to yourself if you have nothing better
to add.

Mike, ill give a reinstall a go, although i have already
tried once before, with the same results, hence my posting
here.
Out of interest, could the issue be down to
incompatability with the hard disk or ram generally? I
was inclined to think it was the HDD as its actually an
old HDD (budget being tight and the need for a new system
asap meant i went for a 2nd hand drive on the system)
