I was able to get rid of messenger pretty easily. There
are a couple ways that I've found, but the easiest is to
just disable it from add/remove programs > microsoft
services. First, if you use outlook express, make sure
the "auto start messenger" box is unchecked, and then
close out of OE. Exit out of msgr from the taskbar.
Then go to add/remove progs, and on the left click on
Microsoft services. uncheck messenger and then go to
finish, or update.. whatever is next. May need to
reboot. Should solve your problems. Some report that
this slows down OE. If so, just google for OE
troubleshooting and you should find some solutions. Good
luck!
