Media player 9 plays 4:3 mpg at 16:9. Help.

I have 2 files of home video in mpg format, which plays OK at 4:3 with
windows media player 7. but it turns to 16:9 on the Mplayer 9( in my
XP) with flattened faces for everyone.

I tried other mpg files but they are so far OK. Is this a bug with
only some formats??

I have tried changing the settings under "Video Size" but it does not
change the aspect ratio

Help please.
