View Full Version : Help favorites disappeared

I have XP Professional SP1 and have saved a lot of
favorites under help and support that are links to MS
documents on the web.

Suddenly all but three of these favorites vanished from
my help and support window.

Does anybody know:

1) What could have caused this?
2) Where are the favorite settings kept? if I know this
maybe they are in my backups.

Thanks

David;
I'm guessing >>>
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\HelpCtr\

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Hi David,

See if this applies: I have seen this behavior caused by McAfee and from
the date and time being incorrect. Checkpoints and Suggestions:

Check to be sure that your date and time is correct. Also, if you are using
McAfee, this will help:

McAfee gave this solution to the bug where VirusScan 6 stops your
Internet Explorer History file working.

Open VirusScan console
Select "Pick a task..."
Select "Change my VirusScan settings"
Select "Configure VShield background scanning"
Select "Customise your VShield settings"

Select the "Internet Filter" icon from the icons down the left hand side On
the "Detection" tab, in the 'Applet filters' section, remove the tick next
to "ActiveX Controls".

Wes,

Yes thats where they are favorites.streams is the file
and when restored my favorites were back.

Kelly, thanks for the suggestions on why. I don't have
McAfee, maybe the system time went odd at one stage which
is why they disappeared.

Really pleased to get them back from backups!

Many thanks
