I qualify for an upgrade of XP Pro (from NT 4.0) but want
to install from scratch because I have NT/98 dual boot
right now, and I'm sure my PC would benefit from a clean
install.
Can I buy the upgrade and do a clean install?

Yes--boot from the XP cd and choose to format the current partition during
install.Installation will proceed normally.
On future clean installs, it will ask you to insert your NT disk to verify
qualification for the upgrade disk.
