one disk me another disk xp

I have my old win me on one hard disk and installed xp pro on a new disk.

I was told it was better to start fresh rather than upgrade the ME to XP
changing fat to nth (or whatever)

I also thought I could transfer all my programs and settings to the new
disk but apparently this isn't so? I haven't even figured out how to
transfer my settings from one disk to the other in my puter. All the
directions are for transferring from one computer to another.

1. Is it possible to move all my old programs from one disk to another
in the same pc?

2. If I upgrade from ME to XP will it still be a good stable fast
version of xp? I changing the fat to the other as good as starting fresh?

Its a real pain installing all my programs new.

Hi John,

You can boot WinME and run the FASTWIZ (Files and Settings Transfer Wizard)
from the WinXP CD and create a file that you can then import after
restarting to the WinXP system. However, you are going to be limited by the
4GB file size limit of the FAT322 file system, so only transfer settings.
Files you can drag & drop into the new system, and programs should be
installed into it from the original installatin media.

If you don't have much time invested in the new XP install, I would suggest
you wipe out the new drive and start over. There are many options you can
pursue depending on the capability of your current system. What is the size
and space free on the hard drive with Me. What is the size of the new hard
drive.
If space is inadequate on the Me drive, you should consider cloning the old
drive to the new drive and then instead of doing a clean install, upgrade Me
after preparing for a clean install.
Post your specs and perhaps you can put together a killer system.

The XP upgrade is very different from Windows upgrades in the past. Your
results will be very good if you prep your system properly before the
upgrade. You will want to remove all software not compatible with XP. The
upgrade advisor will flag incompatible software and hardware, so don't
ignore it's suggestions.

xp is that as good as starting with the new one (file system? )in a
