Upgraded?

My PC had Win98 (D Drive) & NT 4.0 (C Drive) dual boot. I
used XP Pro Upgrade to install XP as a new install on C
Drive. Seems NT is still around. I repartioned Drives D
& E into 1 new drive "New E" and formatted the "New E"

I was under the impression that installing XP Pro in this
way would replace NT. Is this not correct? Did I screw
something up during install?

It depends on how you installed Windows XP.
Did you simply install into another folder and both OSs are on the
same partition?
If so, only real fix is a Clean Installation.

Windows XP is essentially updated NT.
Do you actually see old NT files or are they actually new Windows XP
files?

Since you wanted NT gone and you repartitioned the other drive
anyways, you could try again following this:
Disconnect all peripherals (camera, printer, scanner, etc)
Go to BIOS and set CDROM as boot device before hard drive.
Insert Windows XP CD and reboot.
At "Press any key to boot to CDROM" quickly press a key and follow the
prompts for a Clean installation:

Delete all partitions in step 5 if you desire to erase all data on the
hard drive.
Partitioning and formatting will be done automatically.
All data will be destroyed, back-up important data first.

After you are finished, you will need to load the appropriate drivers.

If your computer was shipped with Windows XP, these procedures may or
may not apply.
Check your manual or contact the computer manufacturer for more
details.
