How is it hanging? That is, total lockup of the computer without even
being able to move the mouse. Or jerky screen motions and long access
times? Is the problem confined to just this USB drive or to others as
well as different USB devices?

If I click on the drive or try to access properties, or if it is installed when I boot the system just hangs. Everything else works, reasonably well. I get the forever hourglass and finally have to use Task Manager to close it. Message in TM is 'not run
ning.' Other USB devices work fine. I have a usb/scanner-printer. Those are the only 2 usb devices plugged in. The drive is plugged into a USB hub.

Maybe the hub isn't working! Try connecting to one of the ports you
already are using. :-)

Tried using 2 different USB ports. They all recognize, but I still can't access. I'm stumped.

Found the problem in that the drive was formatted FAT32 not NTFS. Went to MY Computer>right clik>manage> Devices> format to NTFS. Drive works fine now.
