Hi,
I recently purchased a new IBM ThinkPad with Windows XP
Professional installed. After two weeks of
installing/uninstalling/reinstalling/reuninstalling/downlo
ading patches from various websites and attempting to
install them, using the System Restore utility to try to
get back to square one, etc.etc.etc....I have not
succeeded in getting any of my non-MS software programs
to run on this operating system.
Any attempt to run my most crucial piece of software, a
translation management program known as Trados (which is
not exactly ancient -- only 1-1/2 years old) crashes the
computer, requiring a hardware restart.
Even MS Office, in the Office XP suite I just purchased is
having problems. Trying to open MS Windows results in an
error message regarding an AutoExec compile error. I
tried all three options that the MS support site suggests
for solving this problem (knowledge base article 329820).
Nothing worked.
The only thing I can think to do know is to wipe the hard
drive clean, reinstall Windows and start from scratch.
The problem is, the computer arrived with the software
installed, and I do not have an install disk. Can I
uninstall windows and re-run Windows SP setup without a
disk? If not, what else can I do?
Thanks for the help.. Robin
