mail merge from Excel XP to Word document

We are having difficulty with transfer of numbers from an
Excel spread sheet data base to a mail merge Word
document. The numbers in the data base are in percentages
and would like that transferrred to the word document. The
other numbers are in eg 0.2 and the numbers come out
0.200000000001. The percentages come out eg 88% comes out
0-.880000000000. We did not have this problem in the old
programs just since we started using professional edition-
XP. Solutions?
