View Full Version : Problem with Mouse Pointer Schemes

Hello:
Recently I installed an old Microsoft download I had: Microsoft Alternative
Mouse Pointers, on my WinXPPro+SP1. But then I found that there were two
entries for each mouse pointer scheme in Control Panel -> Mouse
Properties -> Pointers. That is, WinXP already came with the schemes
installed by default. So I uninstalled Microsoft Alternative Mouse Pointers.
Now, whenever I try to open Control Panel -> Mouse Properties -> Pointers, I
get 15 error messages saying "The C:\WinNT\System32\Windows default file,
which conatins the 'Normal Select' cursor, is either missing or corrupt."
The message is displayed for each of the 15 cursors, after which I can view
and change the mouse pointer schemes normally.
Could someone please help me fix this?
Thanx in advance.
Cheers!

Open XP's System Restore program and select a Restore Point that
was created prior to your problem becoming known.
[Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore]

Thanx for your reply, Nicholas ... unfortunately I have turned off System
Restore on my entire system ... I don't trust Microsoft to get it right the
first time ... also, since I have only a 1.6GHz P4 with 256MB RAM, I have
turned off all such automatic maintenance background programs ... I prefer
running them manually when the system is free.
I even tried copying the entire C:\Winnt\Cursors folder from a known good XP
system ... didn't work ...
Any other ideas please ?
